Interns, Volunteers & Researchers
island6 Arts Center provides internship, research and volunteer opportunities to the public as part of the educational component of our mission. Through internships, research and volunteering, the public is invited to engage with, and learn from, artists and arts professionals actively working with new technologies. Interns, researchers and volunteers play a vital role in our community and we invite you to explore the opportunities available in island6's galleries, labs and studios.
If you are interested in volunteering for exhibitions, special events, or education programs, send an email to:

We always appreciate help with the physical setting up of artworks in preparation for shows, translating texts from English to Chinese, collecting materials and objects from around Shanghai, and spreading news about events and exhibitions.
relies on a dedicated team of researchers who work tirelessly to provide the artists with relevant information regarding local culture, global commerce, and art history. The research team comprises experienced academic minds from around the world and injects island6's visual and literary missions with background, context and a strong sense of the philosophical. Please email your letter of interest and resume to contact [arroba] island6 [dot] org
Internships will be offered assisting projects and assisting island6 staff with project-based and ongoing needs. Please email your letter of interest and resume to contact [arroba] island6 [dot] org
In your letter of interest please indicate the time frame for which you are available as well as the type of internship you will be looking for. Skills and requirements for internships vary. We wish it weren't so, but internships are UNPAID. We will, however, work with educational institutions to provide academic credit for your work; graduate students are encouraged to apply. In some cases, we provide lodging for the interns.
These are positions providing someone with unbeatable experience working with art lovers and galleries in the Shanghai community.
We are seeking artistic-minded, motivated individuals who wants to build a career in any of media, design, management, public relations, publishing or art gallery directorship and curatorship. The right candidates will
--take extreme attention to detail
--constantly think ahead
--be able to give and receive constructive criticism
--constantly take initiative
--have excellent people skills
--have basic computer skills
--be adaptable to the changes in the Shanghai environment
--willingly work long (but enjoyable) hours
--be flexible with the unexpected
--and most importantly, live, think and work with passion and creativity.
Although we are an art gallery and art production studio, we do not want to hire artists. We direct and represent a group of artists, so to place an artist on the management team creates a conflict of interest.
These are positions that will provide invaluable experience in a multitude of overlapping fields. If you are interested, please send an email to contact [arroba] island6 [dot] org
