Kartini Tanoto

Kartini Tanoko is a curator and co-director of the art gallery 1918 Art Space. She recently negotiated the expansion of the gallery into a second space on Huai’an Lu, with the aim of focussing on multimedia and experimental artwork. She has worked with many Chinese artists including Xu Guofeng, Kang Kai, Wu Jifeng and Liu Dao 六岛.

In July 2010, she co-ordinated the art show "It's a strange, strange world!" which sought to expose human desire, irrationality, frustrations and paranoia through a mysterious dreamscape created with an unusual use of space and artistic media. The show featured young Shanghai painters, video and mixed media artists, including Liu Dao 六岛.
