A woman stands holding a woven basket with her legs squarely apart, her dress simple and with a pattern normal to the countryside or tailoring similar to those whom migrate to the city. Her face holds a curious smile, she appears young and her hair is bound back exposing her entire visage. Apart from the robust aura she radiates and resolute appearance, she seems delicate. Lacquer coats the entire visual plane, lends a shimmering effect to either the mundane, ordinary green dress cut above the knee, extending over the pitch black void of the panel. There is no texture, only a few slight lines of black ink and paint which define her facial expression, flow of garments and decide, in a visual manner, how the basket is woven. In this, we may contemplate her origins, her arrival, what lies behind the concealment of a simple smile, what lies behind her simple dress...
The work acts as a single history, a silent tale of a young woman whom may as well originate from the pastures of the countryside celebrated in the socialist posters of the 50's for all her healthful vigour, as one whom migrated to the shores of the city only yesterday and whom laughs inwardly, myopically, at the explosions of fashion, urbanity and inane complexity of contemporary life.
