Masculine, and rugged, a nightstand designed specifically for him. The term furniture is believed to have been derived from the French word, ‘fournir,’ which literally means to provide for. Here, in front of the mirror and interactive display of a drawer opening reveals Pandora's box full of manly paraphernalia. A busy day begins with an appropriate amount of preparation. From the activity of grooming even to mental preparation, the mirror is this man’s secret, his demise. It is his very conscience.
Men’s vanity mirrors in particular, were designed with the intent to assist the regal and active businessman in preparing themselves before slipping out of the house for another busy day. Only, this man has been “having trouble,” and not the sort that you can push under the rug and do away with. There is a long train of thought running through his head, pressure he fears is in knocking on his doorstep. As things appear deeper, darker, and weightier, he calms himself in front of the mirror, with a little tap back to reality and a cocky smile, reminding himself to keep it together.
On this day in particular, he delicately braces his exterior from the world and most especially from his counterpart…otherwise; his fear of being inadequate in this relationship that is hard, hard work and barely satisfying, will soon do him in. Does she know? he wonders. On any other day he'd simply lose touch. And, that stupid event tonight, he almost forgot. On top of his traditional responsibilities he's got to make it for the dinner this evening that his wife demanded on hosting for the young and happy neighbors down the lane. God, why do they have to be so happy! Today he does all he can to muster up enough courage to keep it wrapped up, the story between the mirror, and himself. [Kristen Delaney] |
