A mysterious, androgynous, black giant dominates your mind. An
adult's face on a colossally-proportioned baby's body, it twists your
sense of normalcy. You look into its eyes, and you can't help but
connect to it, as if you're looking into an inverted mirror. You are
nothing like this being, but in the act of defining what you are not
you call into question what you are. What lurks in your mind is never
the same as what you think you project outward to the rest of the
world... you are not the gargantuan, childlike thing that is now
occupying your thoughts.
In a moment, or perhaps simultaneously, your senses wander to the
faceless soldiers that march like ants beneath the behemoth. If this
is the size of a soldier, then perhaps the creature that towers above
them is the state, the entity in which you are but a fragment. Your
face is a speck in that shadow, but at the knees the light shines
through. The knees are the joint upon which the giant is most
dependent. When you notice that the knees are translucent, revealing
the soldiers that march steadily onward, perhaps you observe that the
macrocosmic cannot move without the microcosmic, the state cannot
function without the individuals who serve it, and maybe what you are
cannot exist without what you are not. [Rhino Alabandine] |
