ABOUT

In Liu Dao’s “Double Blind”, a papercut silhouette of an exotic tree appears centered to the eternal swinging of two ladies, perfectly synchronized. The delicate features remind of the careful line in human ethics that exists in scientific experimentation. Bias, whether it is conscious or not, can undermine the credibility of any expensive pharmaceutical test. Double-blind experiments thus help eliminate this problem by ensuring both the researcher and the subjects are not aware of what medicine is being tested on each individual. Like the girls unable to see one another behind the tree creates a Liu Dao masterpiece, experiments done blindly permit medical miracles. [Jack Mur]
