The hour before sunset is feeding time. Therefore it is an all-too-brief, quickly snatched, very precious rest time for me. I can already hear the dull thuds of wings beating against the carved bars as I labor down the corridor towards the cage with my heavy feed bucket. I can't decide if I hate this cage or love it. Since the Master came back from the Far East five months ago, bearing this giant bamboo dome, I have been put on feeding duty and this is has been the start of... something strange stirring within me. I stand in front of the cage now. The cage, and the animals within it, remind me of something. My thoughts are whirling and confused like the rainbow-colored wings fluttering crazily in excitement. I used to think it was the anticipation of food… but now I wonder, could it be something else? [Loo Ching Ling 吕晶琳] |
