Handcrafted gently in a matter of time and with a profound capacity for tenderness, “The Tree of Wishes” employs a Chinese paper cut style, common in both traditional and modern art. Paper cutting is mainly notable in Asian art, and is often displayed in Interior patterns and designs. With the guidance of reflective LED illumination, the images here appear to take on a spirit of their own. Alive and awakened is mother earth!
A soft whisper, and a reassuring, “come hither” calls the tree to the golden tipped fireflies. “Find rest in my branches,” it echoes, “Calm the flutter within, and find a moment to quiet your spirit!” Above the woody perennial plant, a single stem holds the ground erect from underneath allowing its long and twisted fingers to stretch out, long-like wooden beams supporting the natural world.
The handcrafted paper Mache used here seems to give way to an airy and gentle appeal. The paper’s softness lends a sense of peace to the images mood. Except for that dark and patchy square centered above the tree. That tiny patch hangs over the tree’s head like a bad secret. I “wish” it would go away and bring tomorrow, a sunny day.
