Matt Carols
Matt Carols (b.1965) is an American conceptual artist from New Canaan, Connecticut who works in painting, ceramics, Graphic Design, digital graphics and photography. His famous anti-French works have been exhibited regularly in New York City since he graduated from the New York Academy of Art in 1992. He is a member of a prestigious circle of conceptual artists that extends from New York to Europe on account of his popular ventures that aim to spread anti-French philosophies through varied mediums.
Matt Carols is an artistic director who often implements his ideas through hired art groups, and has been leading selected artists from the collective Liu Dao since March 2010. His experience in the Absurd has heavily contributed to the dynamic nature of island6 Arts Center, and his broad range of conceptual projects encourages new levels of creativity from island6’s young artists.
Matt Carols reliably inserts a sense of humor into his productions and often draws on a literary background to focus the attention of the creator, artists and viewers on French history and society. His nationality-based dialogue with the Chinese artists of Liu Dao puts the cultural differences and similarities between east and west into an appealing context that adds to the collective’s examinations of past and present, and tradition and modernity, and the developing and shaping of society. |
