island6 Arts Center is proud to announce the opening of “Pi” on 03/21/2009 featuring conceptual artist Danamza (France) in an open collaboration with Liu Dao.
Danamza’s artistic creation encapsulates a magnification of principles grounded in a metaphysical investigation. For this exhibition, he has sought to investigate the parameters of sensorial perception and graphic dimensions in the creation of eighteen unique site-specific artworks intended for the Shanghai audience. Pi: Infinitude is a definition in terms of the artists’ obsessive passion and unrelenting pursuit of perfection.
Aesthetics and visual beauty are at the core of his quasi-scientific undertaking, Danamza’s propulsion towards metaphysical thought returns to the source of departure as he breaks visual and spatial boundaries. Transforming the premises of the island6 Arts Center following his residency and in open collaboration with the Liu Dao collective, the conceptual and graphic intelligence of his message has morphed with new interactive and virtual technologies. The result is a hypnotic display which challenges perception at every level and demands that one reflect upon where content ends and form begins in the process of participation.
Danamza is a conceptual chameleon and perpetual nomad whom has crossed the globe in his quest for new graphic and visual languages which may delineate the impact of abstract metaphysics in the collective human experience. It is a simultaneous excavation of self which refracts across continents as the intellectual vagabond absorbs, diffuses & simulates the “real” and juxtaposes surreal counterpoints with an inexhaustible curiosity & imagination.
On this occasion, the migrant soul transcends Shanghai and yields a technical mastery which is at once profound, spontaneous and unnerving in his artistic creation. If one may see the Universe in a grain of sand, Danamza first disarms and then places us within the eye of the storm.
