PREVIEW BERLIN 2013
with Pantocrátor Gallery
When questioned in an interview about Berlin’s current financial status, the then Mayor of Berlin- Klaus Wowereit- answered "Berlin ist arm, aber sexy." In other words: “Berlin is poor, but sexy.” And so it comes to pass that the extremely sexy city of Berlin will play host to a showcase of 2013’s hottest art and lusted after artists. After starting in 2005, Preview Berlin have been dedicated to their mission of securing Berlin as an art capital which welcomes international talent and nurtures home grown brilliance. Last year saw the inception of Berlin Art Week, Preview Berlin teamed up with neighbouring art fair Art Berlin Contemporary, to form a week of art inspired activities, festivities and all round merriment. This year’s Berlin Art Week will again feature Preview Berlin which takes place on 19th-22nd September, but the fun filled week of all things art kicks off with a huge open air event on the 17th.
As the fair enters into its ninth year it is still very much committed to showcasing upcoming talent, the next big artists and the latest trends. This will be island6’s debut at Preview Berlin and the offerings of the Liu Dao Art Collective will include techno-inspired visions of modern China and electro charged landscapes. The event itself will be held in the former painter halls of the opera workshop in Zinnowitzer Strasse. Given the international interest and expected large turnout of over 17,000 visitors, it’s safe to say that Berlin aren’t letting go of their heavyweight art capital title just yet.
This is not the first time island6 has had the pleasure of visiting Berlin. Last year, Liu Dao’s Bewildered on the Bund featured at Berliner Liste courtesy of Pantocrator Gallery. And in 2011, Pantocrátor’s alternative space in Berlin, the Freies Museum, showcased a few of island6’s select pieces. This year will see a joint effort between island6 and Pantocrátor to bring Liu Dao to Preview Berlin. So it would seem our annual visit to Berlin is very much on schedule. And no worries, we’re sure this sexy city will appreciate the LED sirens and animated Adonises that haunt Liu Dao’sJian Zhi 剪紙 backdrops … Bis bald, Berlin...xoxo
