Dear Friends of island6,
At a time when funding for the arts has become precarious
and many art spaces have had to change their missions to survive, island6 Arts
Center remains committed to supporting young and emerging artists and
presenting original, risk-taking programs that explore new curatorial models,
challenging the definitions and boundaries of art, and engaging in key issues
of contemporary society.
Since April 2006, island6 Arts Center has shown 198 artists from 21 different countries, sponsored 110 resident artists, organized 39 exhibitions and helped in the creation of 1900 art projects. The
residency focuses on production and is typically followed by an exhibition. In 2007 island6 Arts Center, under the artistic direction of Thomas Charvériat & Zane Mellupe, founded Liu Dao, a collective of emerging Chinese and international artists. Liu Dao explores the cultural potential in the convergence of art, technology and science, and their discoveries are applied to the development of the artist community.
Finding support for experimental programming like ours has always been a challenge. That's why island6 is launching this appeal to our loyal audience -- people like you who have come to rely on island6 to provide an alternative perspective on contemporary art and culture -- to support island6 with a year-end donation.
A gift from $5 to $1,000 would make an enormous difference to us. Your generous contribution will enable us to continue bringing fresh, edgy ideas to the public and will help us to continue our commitment to exhibiting and supporting young, emerging artists of all backgrounds.
Sincerely,
Thomas Charveriat
