Thomas Charvériat
Artist and curator born in Paris (1974), who lives and works in Shanghai.
He specializes in curating exhibitions that promote the use of interactivity in art. As an artist, Thomas creates animatronics installations with GPS, SMS, video, sound, electronic data and humor that interact with the viewer. Simplicity and elegance are combined to create a multi-sensorial experience of surprise and playfulness.
The artist currently exhibits on a regular basis in international new media art shows, such as Art Futura and Observatori. Thomas Charvériat has collaborated with various art institutions such as Museo de las Ciencias Prìncipe Felipe in Valencia (Spain), Museo Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso in Amarante (Portugal), Museo Maritimo de Barcelona and Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai. He has work in private and public collections throughout Europe, North America and Asia.
Thomas Charvériat is the director and founder of Montcada5 in Barcelona and island6 Arts Center in Shanghai, two non-profit projects dedicated to the support of emerging artists. Since 2004, his organizations have helped 150 artists through a unique residency program focused on art production. island6 has supported and produced more than 1000 creative projects organizing 36 exhibitions in situ and abroad. In addition, Thomas Charvériat also directs island6Lab (Liu Dao 六岛), a research group including young talents, engineers and volunteers dedicated to the development of a technological platform for the future benefit of the artist community.
