"As If We Weren't Here" (就像我们不存在)
"As If We Weren't Here" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
Flowers are just flowers. It doesn’t matter if we are talking about artworks from the Byzantine period, or if you were scanning through Judith Leyster’s book of tulips. While Georgia O’Keeffe created an element of surprise through her magnified paintings of poppies, Hokusai’s Sakuras will immediately make you disorientated. And if you ever contemplate the flower vase artworks of Jan Brueghel the Elder, you will truly understand what an illusion is. As a subject, a flower is perhaps one of the most frequently used images in art. Firstly, because of the impact of their colors. Careful manipulation of colors will seduce any viewer. Secondly, painting flowers can be far less complicated than working with naked models in front of you all day and night. And thirdly, a flower is a classic form of symbolic expression. Since most modern flowers are human-bred, it is a symbol of man’s ability to dominate nature. Yesterday, we were cross-breeding different types of flowers. Today, we are engineering these flowers using genetic sequences we have invented. And tomorrow, all flowers with artificial intelligence will be dominating the world as if we were not here at all.
