"Hatamen" (哈德门)
"Hatamen" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
Back in the day, when the doctor wrote your prescription with a cigarette in his mouth, no one batted an eye. That’s because smoking meant something back then. A sea of smiling faces invited us to join them on cigarette posters. And what can trick you into thinking it’s the sexiest and most modern thing to do? Why, beautiful women of course, either the ones you want to get or the ones you want to be. Not much has changed in the regard, having your brand might always be a way to symbolize your social status and your values. If you smoke as a man in China, you are member of the club. If you smoke a good brand, Chunghwa, Panda or Hatamen, you are the boss. On the other hand, if you are a woman and you smoke, you show everybody that you are different. No woman smokes here because of stress or habit, but instead to symbolize modernity, a lifestyle, being independent, forward thinking, strong, and equal to men. Or free.
