"Ani-maybe Not"
"Ani-maybe Not" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
What do you think you’re looking at? My eyes are up here you know. I didn’t want to have to do this today, but you are really asking for it. As an anime performer, my life has been made a spectacle. I can’t walk down the street without being ogled and catcalled. I suppose I’m lucky that I only exist in the imaginations of those watching me. I wouldn’t be able to stand to the pressure of an aging body in an industry that only values my thin waist and sexual innocence. If I had feathers, would I still stock shelves? Would my neck be admired if it were there? I doubt it. In a way, I’m better than real dinosaurs. Certainly more desirable. I’m in your head—I can’t reject you or hurt you, unless you want me to of course. Purposely and purposefully, I am an object, an ideal meant to live on a shelf (some would say the past). Are you okay with that?
