"Chinese Whispers" (以讹传讹)
"Chinese Whispers" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
A game of Chinese whispers if you will. You draw a drawing, and I’ll draw a drawing of your drawing, and you draw a drawing of my drawing of your drawing, and so on. This never ending cycle allows for a margin of error and change. Two drawings are never going to be exactly the same, and in this way, each one along the sequence will look less and less like the original. The 100th drawing is going to look less like the original than the 30th does, or will it? Maybe along the evolutionary cycle of repetition and change, there will be a point in which the drawings begin to resemble the original again, slowly with tweaks and changes, perhaps the 1437th drawing will become the exact replica of the original. Well you tell me. Here is a drawing (number in sequence unknown) and let’s compare it to Franz Kline’s ‘Suspended’. Was his the original in this chain of events, or a reaction to another unknown drawing? In a completely artistic sense…what came first, the chicken or the egg? And does it really matter?
