"Genius Loci" (场所精神)
// BLURB //
I’ve been everywhere, looking for that one thing. That feeling that’s so hard to describe, but when you feel it, you think you’ve arrived. Actually, it’s just the start. Traveling through the Americas, crossing the Atlantic Ocean by boat and hitchhiking in Europe, being constantly on the road, living from one backpack, and then going back, going down to Africa, taking the Trans-Siberian Express… looking for that sparkle, well, you need more than one sentence to describe that. More than two, and probably even a novel wouldn’t be enough. This feeling runs through you if you are in a place that’s out of the ordinary. La Grande Jatte, the Mont Sainte-Victoire, Kanagawa, the bridge at Ekeberg Hill are the kind of places I’m talking about. Even though Renoir, Cézanne, Edward Munch, Katsushika Hokusai or Georges Seurat are not there anymore, somehow their spirit is still present. When I travel, this is that sparkle I’m looking for. Climbing to the top of the world for a moment that becomes a blur in the movement. But how can one ever stand still when everybody tells us never stop?
